This was an interview I found in a swedish magazine the other day. I translated it and got the images for it ( sorry the images are kind of blurry though. I will scan them and post them later on in better quality)
”I don’t dare have kids” Ellen Pompeo, 37, in Greys Anatomy
All about; Actress Ellen Pompeo
Because; she plays Meredith in Greys Anatomy (season 3 starts march 14th in Sweden)
• Ellen about…
…The Greys Anatomy success;
“Sometimes I think this can not be happening. I am unbelievably thankful for the show; it’s my longest employment so far. I like the security it brings and that I can still live in Los Angeles.
…The roles as Meredith Grey:
“She’s smart enough to get through med school, but she really has to understand she can not go around sleeping with strangers all the time.”
…Patrick Dempsey (Dr. McDreamy)
“Patrick is very adorable and very married in real life. I am a very good fiend of his wife.”
…Her childhood;
When Ellen was just 4 years old her mother Kathleen died. Her five older siblings and her father were devastated by grief. “And there I was who just knew something was very wrong. I have a very vivid memory of my father crying” she told the magazine Allure. But in the catholic Irish- Italian family you never talked about grief and so they could not work through it. “It was never allowed to deal with it; I just had to get through it on my own.”
But Ellen believes her mother’s early death helped her appreciate life more.
…Life before the fame;
Ellen grew up in working class Boston. As a nineteen year old she dropped out f Salem State College after just a few weeks, something she doesn’t regret. To Allure she says; “De others just wanted to get drunk and party, it was safe somehow. It made me realize I was already far from them.”
Already then she knew she wanted to be an actress, but it wasn’t accepted in Boston. “People didn’t take acting seriously; they thought you were crazy for having such big dreams.”
Instead she went to Miami and worked as a waitress for two and a half years. Ellen took a swing at modeling soon realized that was not for her. When she was 24 she realized it was time to do something about those acting dreams. But the start was slow. She moved to New York, played in commercials and auditioned for directors like Ron Howard, who said she was on the right track. 10 years later she was sick of being broke and moved to Hollywood where she auditioned for the TV show Secret Service. Her bitter angsty approach didn’t work but only a few days later she was sent another script. This time she would play a surgical intern who becomes hopelessly in love with a married man.
…Love;
Ellen met music producer Chris Ivery three years ago. “We met at the disc with frozen peas in a grocery store in Boston where I grew up.” They were friends for six months before they realized there was something more between them and since then they are inseparable.
They do everything together, cook dinner, watch movies, do morning yoga and takes walks in pal Springs on the weekends. About Chris she has said; “If you see Chris in real life – oh my God, he lights up the room. He has one of the mosy dynamic personalities. He is electrifying.”
He asked her to marry him on her 37th birthday, but the date for the wedding is yet to be decided.
…Having kids;
“Right now I feel like I am not even a good enough mum for my two poodles. Kids is a huge decision. Part of me wants kids – now! I am after all 37. But another part of me feel that now I have finally got this amazing role. I have a six year contract with the show, now I just want to focus on this.”
Ellen have in interviews with American press said that she and Chris has talked about it quite a lot, but they are scared of loosing what they have. One hope is that they make Meredith pregnant on the show…
…Her style;
Ellen likes vintage clothes and often wears plane white or black. Her friend Jessica Paster has become her own personal stylist when she don’t have time to go shopping.
“One of the acting’s many perks” she says.
…Her weight;
A soar spot for her. Everyone can see how skinny Ellen is. Media in USA has been pressing her by saying that it’s the Hollywood press that made her loose weight. She says; “I am naturally skinny and I get hurt when people say things like that, just like over weight people get hurt when someone calls them fat. I am starting to eat more and work out to gain weight.”
…About the fame;
“I think the fame has affected Chris a lot more then me. He has become more protective over me” she says to the magazine Eve. “Like for example I can laugh at a paparazzi photographer who falls when he tries to take a picture while Chris sometimes wants to beat him up.”
