10 Weeks
A screenplay by
Emelie
&
CJ
Characters:
Charlie - 17 - daughter to Jack and Amanda
Jack - Charlie's father, also father to Helen, Angie and Becca. Married to Bridget for 22 years.
Bridget - mother to Helen, Angie and Becca. Married to Jack.
Helen - 20 - oldest daughter of Jack and Bridget
Angie - 18 - middle daughter to Jack and Bridget
Becca - 13 - youngest daughter to Jack and Bridget
Summary - After her mother's death Charlie is forced to spend the last 10 weeks before she turns 18 with her no good father and the family he left her for a long time ago. But as the weeks pass not everything seem as clear as before...and thinsg start to change...
(The scene goes from black to show a woman sitting on a park bench. She has long blonde hair and looks happy. A man comes up and smiled, he extends his hand to her…)
CHARLIE VO
A long time ago a man met a woman. May sound like a quiche but it’s the truth. It was also a long time ago that the same man left that same woman when he found out she was pregnant…
(The man gets off the bench, this time the woman is crying…)
CHARLIE VO
But in this day and age a woman does not need a man. The woman was heartbroken but she kept moving. She raised her daughter up to be a good kid but even the best of stories have to hit a bump in the road…
(Show the woman lying in a bed. Her face is pale and she is hardly moving. By her side sits a girl in her late teens, her face in covered in tears)
CHARLIE VO
My father left before I was born. My mother, the woman I thought was made of stone and nothing could beat her down was taken from me. Is it really that strange that I no longer believe in fairytales…or happy endings…
(Scene fade to black)
EXT . BOARDWALK IN L.A - DAY
(A girl, gets out of a yellow taxi)
TAXI DRIVER
Are you sure I can’t drive you
All the way?
CHARLIE
Yes I’m sure
(She takes her one small duffle bag
And throws over her shoulder)
TAXI DRIVER
Okay then.
Good luck!
CHARLIE
I won’t need it.
(She slams the door shut and start
Walking down the boardwalk)
(Cue song – Cheyenne Kimball – Hanging on)
(The song plays as CHARLIE walks all the way
Until she reaches the PARKER resident)
EXT . PARKER RESIDENT. DAY
(CHARLIE stands before a large white villa.
3 floors and with a stunning garden of flowers
The ocean can be seen just behind it)
CHARLIE
10 weeks.
(Takes a deep breath)
Just 10 weeks.
(She walks up to the front door
And rings the bell)
HELEN
(Opens the door, her face
Falls when she sees CHARLIE)
Let me guess. You’re Charlotte.
CHARLIE
What gave it away? The bag or
The look of disgust on my face?
HELEN
Oh she’s funny
CHARLIE
Oh she’s a b****h
(Moves past HELEN and in to the house)
INT . CONTINUATION - DOWNSTAIRS HALLWAY
HELEN
You…
(JACK enters from the living room)
JACK
Oh Charlotte. You’re here
CHARLIE
Not by choice.
JACK
It’s great to have you here.
CHARLIE
Yes. My mum told me you were
A good liar.
HELEN
(Leans over to her father)
I told you this was a bad
Idea.
CHARLIE
Can I just see my room or something?
I’m very tired from the flight.
JACK
Of course. Of course.
(He starts by leading the
Way towards the stairs to
The second floor.)
INT . CONTINUING - SECOND FLOOR.
JACK
So how do you like America
So far?
CHARLIE
Where to start. No air, too many
People and too hot.
JACK
I am sure you will learn
To like it.
CHARLIE
10 weeks. And trust me
I will be going back to Sweden
So fast you won’t even remember
What I looked like.
JACK
Charlotte.
(Stops in front of a door and turns
To look at her.)
I will always remember that.
You look so much like your mother.
CHARLIE
First it’s Charlie. Not Charlotte.
And second, you do not get to talk
About her. You lost that right a
Long time ago.
(She opens the door to the room
And leaves her father in the hallway)
(The same song from before picks back up
As CHARLIE enters the room and the
Title is shown along with cast names)
