Meanies and goldie the goldfish
Summary – Four year old Meredith starts kindergarten, a day with mean boys, goldfishes, crazy happy people…and friends…
--
“It smells weird” four year old Meredith Grey stated as she looked into the large double room before her.
“You think anything smells weird” her mother stated and looked up at the teacher beside her. “I’ll be back around five to pick her up.”
“Okay” the teacher, Mrs. Frost said with a nod and held Meredith by the shoulders, leading her into the room.
Meredith scanned the room intensely to do damage check. She always did that in a protective manner. Just so she would know what was going on around her. The teacher soon left her and she was on her own, she was used to it though. She played alone at home all the time, or at the hospital where her mommy worked. That was fun, she always got to play with the wheelchairs and other fun things.
She spotted a girl about her own age sitting not too far from her with a small pile of blocks. She walked over to her in search for a friend.
“Hi” she said friendly but the girl just looked up quickly to give her an annoyed look. “My name is Meredith.”
“You wanna play?” Meredith asked.
“Not really” the girl said and pushed her dark hair out of her face. She saw how the young girl before her looked a bit sad, she didn’t do sad. “Fine we can play. I’m Christina.”
“So what are we doing?” Meredith asked and sat down next to her new found friend.
“Throwing blocks” the Christina answered.
“At what?” Meredith looked around them trying to find out what they were being mad at.
“Alex, he is such a meanie” Christina answered and picked up a blue block from the floor. She held it in her hand only to throw it away at a small boy about their age.
“Ouch” he cried and turned around towards them.
“What is going on?” Mrs. Frost walked over to him.
“They threw blocks at me” Alex cried and pointed at Christina and Meredith who both put on their best innocent looks.
“Okay Alex what have we said about blaming people?” she asked the boy. “Christina is a very good girl; she wouldn’t do something like that. Now come on and we will have a talk” the teacher pulled the boy with he rout of the room, not before he could send another look at the two girls though. Christina stuck her tongue out and Meredith giggled, making him angrier.
“Who is that?” Meredith asked making Christina look in the same direction as her.
“You mean bambi?” Christina said with a small smile as they watched the young brown haired boy. He was sitting in the corner with a stuffed bear and a book about the animals in the zoo.
Meredith got up and walked over to the boy. Christina let out a annoyed sigh and followed.
“Hi” Meredith said and the boy looked up. “I’m Meredith” she added. “What’s your name?”
“G – George” he said with a slight stutter.
“You like animals?” Meredith asked as she looked at the book and George nodded. “Me too, I like doggies…my mum don’t though” she said sadly.
“I have a goldfish at home, his name is Goldie” George said making Christina snort slightly.
“That’s nice” Meredith said. “The book works better if you turn it though” she added as she noticed the book was up-side down. George went bright red and turned it around.
“Nice bambi” Christina laughed and pulled Meredith with her away from him.
The two moved towards the other room in search for something to do when a girl jumped up in front of them, startling Meredith so she jumped back a step.
“Hi I’m Izzy” she said in one breath and a big smile on her face. Meredith didn’t think she had ever seen anyone smile that big ever before. “I am new today too and maybe we can be friends. I am a good friend.”
“Sure” Meredith said slowly as she moved to try and walk past the blonde girl.
“So what are we doing?” Izzy asked as she tagged along with the other two.
“Dying” Christina muttered quietly making Meredith smile. She really had found friends today, some better then the others. And it didn’t matter that the place smelled weird anymore…
