A/N; This will probably be one of the hardest stories I have ever written but it has a need to be told. At this time in the world I know it may not be the smartest idea. I for one am very close to the Madeline McCann story here in Europe and in an odd way I may even dedicate this story to her and her family…because I know we all hope for a happy ending…
The song used in the end of each chapter is called ‘Nathalie’ and is by the Swedish singer ‘Jill Johnson’. This story is also dedicated to Nathalie, a girl who was kidnapped in Sweden a few years ago and who the song is about. I did however change the name in the song to fit the story.
Summary: This was not how their happily ever after was supposed to end. Then again how could Addison and Alex know that a vacation back to Seattle would rip the only person that mattered out of their arms…their daughter.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Greys not do I own the characters. At the most I own 2 seasons on DVD and the soundtracks. I also don’t own the song used in the story.

Picture yourself a large house, preferably red with white ends. Around the freshly cut lawn goes a white picked fence to keep the dog in. On the porch, because you have to have a porch, a swing moves slowly in the soft summer breeze. A cat is curled up on the top step, only having one lazy eye open to send a look once in a while to the golden retriever who is rolling around in the grass.
Imagine how a family is added to the picture, a mother who always smiles and bakes the best cookies in the whole neighborhood. There is a father who never is too busy to play catch and who makes the best hamburgers on the grill. Then there is the child, a girl. The mirror image of her mother as a child but with her daddy’s eyes and his calm personality.
This picture would be the dream…this would be the same dream three people would dream at different times through the next few months…this would be the dream that even though unrealistic and too far away to grab…it would still be the dream to keep away the overwhelming darkness hovering above their heads just waiting for its chance to move in…

“Are we there yet?” The girl looked up at the space between the two seats in front of her. The coloring book she had played with slipped out of her hands as she no longer paid attention to it and it hit the floor of the car. She looked down at the sound and titled her head to the side, it was as if she was carefully going over the options in her head. It only took a few seconds before she leaned back into her car seat and gave up on the book. “Are we there yet?” she added again when she realized no one had answered her the first time.
As the girl leaned back in her chair the large white Golden retriever beside her looked up from his slumber and his long nose sniffed, moving towards the floor and where the book lay. But as he realized it wasn’t anything worth eating he curled up on the seat again.
“Yes” Addison sighed, happy she could finally give that answer after hours of no’s. “If you look to the right you can see the water” she added and sent a look into the rearview mirror and smiled as her daughter leaned in her chair to get the first glimpses of the water and maybe even one of those ferry boats everyone was always talking about.
“Can we see the ferry boats today?” the girl looked up and her blue eyes hit the mirror, knowing that was the best way to get to her dad. “Pretty please…” she added the shivering lip and even forced up a few tears into her eyes.
“Tess please…” Alex sounded tired and barely gave his daughter a glance in the mirror. His eyes were etched on the road ahead and even that was a big achievement from him after the hours of driving. They had not managed to get a flight to Seattle and had been forced to set out for a drive the last hours.
“But daddy…”
“Theresa you heard your father” Addison turned around in her seat so she could look at her daughter and at once the tears in the girl’s eyes disappeared and a frown covered her young face. “We will see the ferry boats tomorrow, okay? We can ever ask if Uncle Derek and Aunt Meredith want to come” she added knowing just what buttons to push and as she guessed the girl started smiling.
“Will Ella come too?” Theresa asked knowing she could not let her mother have the last word.
“I’m sure she will” Addison said and turned back in her seat again. With a sigh she let her head fall back against the seat and she closed her eyes.
Alex moved his eyes from the road to look into the backseat. The look of Theresa placing her small pink headphones over her ears and turning on the CD player made him smile. That had been the best birthday present he had ever given her, simply because he no more had to listen to Barney in the car. He swore that purple dinosaur was made by a person who hated adults.
He turned his head to the side and smiled at his wife. She looked so peaceful with her eyes closed. He reached out and placed his hand over hers and her head moved to the side as she opened her eyes.
“We’re almost there” he said and squeezed her hand.
“Good” she gave him a wear smile as her hand traveled up onto her ever growing stomach. “You think we can order room service when we get there because I’m starving?”
“You’re always starving” he teased but stroke her stomach before he placed his hands back on the wheel.
“Be nice” she slapped him playfully but hard on the arm before she turned to look out the window instead but it only took a few minutes before her eyes closed once more and she fell asleep…
--
Half an hour later Alex finally parked the car in front of the hotel. He turned the car off and pulled out the keys before he stepped out.
“Good evening sir.” A man stepped up and Alex placed the keys in his hands before he opened the door on Addison’s side as well as the door behind it. He leaned in and unstrapped Theresa and as he stepped back the dog jumped out with one smooth movement.
“Mickey!” Theresa grabbed her small backpack and climbed out of the car to follow the dog.
“Addison” Alex leaned down and nudged his wife’s shoulder to make her wake up, which she did under protest.
“Just a few more minutes…”
“We’re at the hotel now” Alex took her hand and slowly she stepped out and the fresh cold air seemed to help wake her up more as she soon started to walk towards the doors where Theresa was standing next to Mickey.
Alex made sure all the bags were picked up and then followed the rest of his family into the hotel…
--
The next morning was abruptly shorted when Alex and Addison both woke up by a movement in the bed. That movement would be Theresa and Mickey both jumping up in the bed, the girl first just to show the dog it was safe and he would not get yelled at.
Theresa nestled herself up against Addison and tucked her face into the warm space of her mother’s neck before she whispered. “Can we see the ferry boats now?”
“Tess its 8 in the morning” Alex groaned after he had been able to get away from Mickey’s morning wake up call (which by the way was more about Mickey licking Alex then anything else) to look at the clock on his nightstand.
Mickey took that moment to sit back on the bed and he turned his head to the side and looked at Alex, his tongue hanging out and you could swear he was grinning.
“I am not walking you until after I get coffee” Alex muttered and tried to pull his covers back over him but Mickey was sitting on them to make sure his master would get up.
“Mickey wants to go out” Theresa stated. “He wants to see the ferry boats.”
“Since when do you speak dog?” Addison laughed and sat up, preparing to get up.
“I’ll get it” Alex sighed and pulled himself up into a sitting position as well.
“You hear that Mickey, we are going to see the boats” Theresa flung her tiny arms around the dog’s neck and buried her face into his thick fur, receiving a lick on her cheek that made her giggle.
“If you want to go then you get to call Uncle Derek how does that sound?” Addison asked and as she guessed the girl broke out into a huge smile. She jumped forwards to get off the bed but Addison was quicker and grabbed the five year old. “After breakfast.”
“But…”
“No buts” Addison was hard but she still smiled as she let her daughter run out of the room and she could only shake her head. “That girl is going to be the death of me” she joked and crocked her head back to look at her husband who was getting dressed.
“Aww but she’s just like you babe” Alex teased and placed a quick kiss on her lips before he turned to the bed again where Mickey had curled up and was soaking up the warmth from the covers. “You want to go out or not?” he asked and within seconds the dog had passed him and was almost colliding with the door out of the hotel suite. “I guess that’s a yes.”
“Definitely” Addison laughed as she pulled herself up and started to collect some clothes to wear.
“Will you order breakfast for me too?” he asked.
“Sure” she smiled and pecked his lips with hers before she headed for the bathroom…
--
“Ellie look!” Theresa grabbed the one year younger girl by her hand and pulled her with her towards the other side of the ferry boat.
“Don’t go too close to the edge girls” Meredith called after them and she got a faint okay back. “They won’t care” she laughed and sat down on the bench next to Addison and Alex Derek following her lead.
“I can’t believe how big Ellie is” Addison said as she followed the blonde girl with her eyes as she in her turn looked up at Theresa with awe. The small red head was talking probably about something funny because Ellie was smiling widely.
“Ellie? Look at Tess” Derek replied. “She’s so big now; I can’t believe she is already five.”
“Yeah, we need to hang out more often” Meredith stated. “You guys should move here.”
“…or you could come down to LA” Alex replied.
“Now there’s a thought” Meredith smiled and turned to her husband. Around them people started to move towards the end of the boat as they had stopped by land again. They however didn’t mind as they were heading back again.
“We can’t move to…” Derek started but he was quickly cut of by a scream so loud and heartbreaking that he didn’t know what to do.
“Theresa…” Addison was up on her feet before she had even uttered her daughters name and for a split second her heart seemed to have stopped beating…there was no red-haired girl anywhere…
