Warnings/Spoilers: Fluff, fluff…and nothing but fluff
Summary: Alex is getting ready to ask Addison very important question…all while Addison is trying everything in her power to mess things up without even knowing it…
“Add can you make breakfast today, we’re running kind of late?” Alex brushed by her on his way into the bathroom.
“But I haven’t even blow dried my hair yet…” she said and turned to get into the bathroom again.
“It’s windy outside” Alex grinned before he slammed the door shut in her face.
“Windy?” she cried. “I’ll get you for windy…” she opened her closet and angrily pulled out her clothes for the day. “I hope he likes poison in his coffee…”
By the time she was fully dressed and had actually tried doing something with her hair and given up she had slowly given up on the idea to poison her boyfriend. Instead she decided to start breakfast and while the eggs were in the pan she pulled out her cell phone and dialed the number she had purposely avoided for the last months. It only took a few seconds before the woman on the other side, way over in Seattle cried out her name is pure happiness.
“Addie!”
It took her a moment to realize who Callie could know who she was so fast. “Oh caller ID” she laughed. “So how are you?”
“Good, pregnant but good” Callie answered. “And I know that’s why you called…”
“Derek couldn’t keep his mouth shut?” Addison asked with a laugh as she flipped the eggs around in the pan in front of her.
“Right” Callie answered. “So you’re still my friend even though I’m pregnant?” she asked recalling an old conversation they had shared back in Seattle.
“Actually….” Addison drew out the sentence and she didn’t need to do more.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah” Addison said. “Against all odds.”
“That’s great” Callie said happily. “So any chance you have the number to the second best person to deliver my baby?” she added.
“Yeah, well I am using the second best so either come here and settle for number three” Addison teased.
“Just let me get my palm-pilot” Addison looked out over the room. “Just need to find it…”
“Right” Callie laughed.
“Oh wait Alex had it last night” Addison said and moved over to where his coat was hanging over the arm chair in the living room. She pulled her hands into the first pocket but found something else.
“Addison…did you find it?” Callie asked and pulled her friend out of the state of trance she had gone in to.
“Uhm…yeah” Addison let the box back into the pocket, the sight of the diamond ring still clear on her mind as she pulled up her palm-pilot from the other pocket. “I just got a bit distracted…”
Alex walked out from the bed room just as Addison put the food on the table. He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before he sat down and poured himself some orange juice.
“This looks great” he quickly started to throw down the food into his mouth.
“Thanks” Addison smiled and she too started eating. Still every part of her mind was still on that ring and she couldn’t help but smile just a little bigger at the thought of what was to come.
Breakfast was done in a hurry and she watched Alex put his coat on and dig his hands into the pockets for just a second. Maybe he wanted to make sure it was still there where he left it.
She was expecting it now, she knew any second he would pull up the box and go down on one knee…but nothing happened. He simply moved towards the front door and grabbed his bag on the way.
“Are you ready to go?”
“Right” she nodded and followed him. Still she couldn’t help but wonder why he didn’t do it…maybe he was waiting for a special moment…maybe later tonight…
Loving you isn’t really something I should do
Shouldn’t wanna spend my time with you
That I should try to be strong
But baby you’re the right kind of wrong
Yeah baby you’re the right kind of wrong
“What is taking him so long?” Addison flopped down onto the armchair in the lobby in between Naomi and Violet. It had been 2 weeks since she had found the ring and still Alex hadn’t done anything.
“Are we feeling impatient today?” Naomi asked and tilted her head towards her friend.
“Okay…” Addison turned to Violet instead. “…so what is taking him so long?”
“Maybe he is waiting for the perfect moment?” the brunette suggested. “Or…maybe he is not ready?”
“Naomi…” Addison turned back to her other friend. “Am I crazy?”
“On so many levels honey” Naomi smiled. “But maybe Alex is just nervous or…”
“Or…he’s playing me” Addison suddenly said as if it was the most obvious thing ever.
“Playing you?” Violet asked confused.
“He knows I know” Addison smiled. “And he knows I will crack…but guess what. I am going to play him out” Addison jumped up from her chair.
“But Addie…its almost 1 o’clock” Violet called after her friend but for once Addison was not interested in the 1 o’clock female bonding.
Might be a mistake
A mistake I’m making
But what you’re giving I am happy to be taking
Cause no ones ever made me feel
The way I feel when I’m in your arms
“Sam do you have a minute?” Alex asked as he popped his head into Sam’s office.
“Sure come on in” Sam showed for the chair in front of his desk. “So what do you want to talk about?”
“Uhm…well you were married to Naomi right?” Alex started nervously.
“Yes I was” Sam nodded. “But I thought you and Addie were going strong…”
“Oh we are” Alex assured him. “I just…I kind of want to ask her to marry me.”
“Oh really” Sam smiled widely. “And you want some advise?”
“Not so much advise as help” Alex said and leaned closer. “You see she is a very stubborn and annoying woman who needs control…and I need help to make my plan work the way I want…”
“I’m listening” Sam moved closer as well as Alex started whisper his plan…
They say you’re something I should do without
They don’t know what goes on
When the lights go out
There’s no way to explain
All the pleasure is worth all the pain
“Have you seen the file on the Jenkins woman?” Sam dropped the file down onto Addison’s desk with full force.
“Yes” she pulled off her glasses and looked up at him. “I delivered her babies…all three of them.”
“She’s back and wants to see you” Sam sighed. “Apparently something about a law suite.”
“What?” Addison hurried on her feet. “Where is she?”
“Forth floor” Sam answered.
“Great” Addison grabbed the file and hurried to the elevator.
She made it into the elevator before she even noticed Alex already being in it.
“Jenkins case?” he asked and she nodded. “Right…” he moved up to the instrument panel and casually let his fingers go over the buttons. “I heard she moved to Texas…”
“What? But she’s here…” Addison said confused just as Alex hit the emergency stop button and the elevator came to a quick halt. “What are you doing?”
“I have a question for you” he moved up to her and placed one hand on each side of her face against the wall behind her. He moved in with his face until she could feel his hot breath against her right ear. He could feel her tense up and he knew just what she was expecting and he couldn’t help but smile. “…where is the ring…?” he asked in a whisper.
“What?” she asked.
“The ring you snatched from me” he smiled. “The one in my pocket.”
“Oh” she couldn’t help but laugh. “That one. Well it was feeling very lonely and you shouldn’t go around carry such expensive stuff.”
“Right” he moved back but his hands remained on the wall to kind of trap her. “then too bad it was fake…” he grinned and moved back to the instrument panel and pressed the button to get the elevator to move again.
“WHAT!” Addison cried as the doors opened again.
“Don’t be nosy Add” Alex laughed and walked out of the elevator leaving her alone muttering words that only Tilly could hear…that was if she could hear through her own laughter…
